Research Focus

1. Hazard data Build flood extent, cyclone corridor, rainfall intensity, landslide zone, drought severity and damaged-area datasets.

2. Response activity Use satellite and GIS layers to screen blocked roads, isolated settlements, temporary shelters, evacuation areas and recovery signals.

How This Demo Is Built

Current prototype Agency event table + coordinates + impact context are displayed with Leaflet web-GIS and satellite basemap layers.

Research expansion Replace screening circles with real satellite hazard layers, then add roads, settlements, shelters, hospitals and night-time lights for response analysis.

Impact Metric

Historical impacts remain as context, but the main purpose is to connect each event with hazard-layer construction and response-detection methods.

Footprint circles are screening zones only. In the expanded research version, these will be replaced by real satellite-derived hazard rasters/vectors and validated response-activity layers.

Expansion workflow Disaster event -> satellite hazard product -> exposed settlements/assets -> roads/services/shelters -> response activity and priority layer.

Data Agencies

Agency disaster reports provide event location, date, affected population and contextual damage/loss information.

Hazard datasets can be derived from Sentinel-1/2, Landsat, MODIS/VIIRS, NASA GPM IMERG, cyclone tracks and national records.

GDACS API is used for live alert markers when internet access is available.

Response detection can combine hazard layers with OSM roads, hospitals, shelter candidates, WorldPop/HRSL and VIIRS night-time lights.
